Blue Zircon is the birthstone for December. Zircons are found in many areas of the world, but the best colors of blue come from Cambodia. Blue zircons actually come out of the ground shades of reddish-brown. After being heat-treated the brown changes to blue or clear, similar to the color shift that occurs in tanzanite when heated. Zircon should not be confused with Cubic Zirconia which is a man-made diamond simulant.
Treatments: All blue zircon has been heat-treated. There are natural colors of zircon though, such as green and yellow.
